10/18/2005: Kitty and Creek honored as Arts Champions by
Board of Supervisors
The Arts Council of Mendocino County announces the 3rd Annual
Champion of the Arts Awards, as part of our local observance of
National Arts and Humanities Month.
The Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Mendocino County is
pleased to announce the recipients of the 2005 Champion of the Arts
Awards.
Potter Valley residents Mac and Kate Magruder are being honored for
their demonstrated excellence in the fields of sculpture and theater
arts, respectively, practiced their art for decades in Mendocino
County, while integrating their art into the daily life of their
communities.
Willits residents Creek and Kitty Norris are being honored for their
many years of volunteer activity and generous support of artists and
arts organizations, contributing to the vitality and awareness of
the arts, and an appreciation for the importance of the arts in the
wider community.
Gualala based The Sea Ranch Properties, owned by Kristine and
Richard Thomure, is being honored for its major sponsorship of the
Gualala Arts and North Coast Artist's Guild Studio Discovery, as
well Project ImagiNation which brings arts programs into the
schools.
Mendocino based Mendocino Unified School Enrichment, or MUSE, a
non-profit foundation, is being honored for granting more than
$200,000 to support drama, instrumental music, choral music, and
many other programs in Mendocino schools since 2001.
The 3rd Annual Mendocino County Arts Champion Awards will be
presented at 11:45 AM on Tuesday, October 18th at the County Board
of Supervisors' meeting. The Arts Council will host a public
reception immediately following. The address for both the meeting
and the reception is the County Administration Building, 501 Low Gap
Road, Ukiah. Please join the Arts Council on October 18th in
recognizing the contributions of these exceptional individuals and
organizations.
KZYX&Z TRANSMITTER FUND UPDATE:
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the new Transmitter
Fund. We now have two new transmitters and a new broadcast
board for Philo. The 91.5 transmitter has now tripled its
former power. At 1700 watts, it is reaching far and wide and
down into all the hollows that could not hear us before.
