Playlist for October 10, 2004:
Show
Theme: "Journey to Sichuan and Tibet"
Please note, faithful listeners, that we
traveled to Sichuan and Tibet in September, which is why we have no
playlists for that month. We offer our Abundant Thanks to Fred
Wooley who filled in for us.
"This show is dedicated to our very
dear daughter, Jenny Chan, who was our host and companion through
thick and thin for the first 20 days of this journey"
The show started out with about 10
minutes introduction to the music - a narrative of some of
our observations and experiences while traveling, and collecting
this music. Musical background to this narrative:
Rhythms of Autumn, Mysterious Note -
Xun [Starwin Record Co.]
The show continues with 5 tone poems:
music descriptive of landscapes from our travels...
Mt Zhumulongma - Shen Mi De Ya
Lu Zang Bu [Chinese label]
Qinban - Xizang Plateau - Shen
Mi De Lu Zang Bu
Love Snow Mountain - Shen Mi De
Ya Lu Zang Bu
Love Song of Kangding - Shen Mi
De Ya Lu Zang Bu
Return to Lhasa - Shen Mi De Ya Lu
Zang Bu
After a brief introduction to the
Kongpo Region of Eastern Tibet, we continue with three folk
selections from tapes of music from the Kongpo Region...which we
listened to on the trip...
...Followed by 7 selections of folk
music from Tibet celebrating the life of the nomadic tribes: their
festivals, herds, cycles of Nature, glorious landscape, and
abundance of everything wonderful and worth celebrating!
These were transcribed from a Chinese/Tibetan VCD which title
translated to "Mother's Hope"...also listened to a LOT
on the trip!
Next, two selections from the 2 cd set
called "Himalayan" from the EMI Taiwan label.
After that, two selections from a
Chinese release by 12 Girls Band, and one by a Tibetan pop star
whose albums we have seen for several years everywhere in China.
Next a cut from the 2 cd set "Graceful Music"
which has a photo of the Potala Palace on it, and is a foreign
Sony release.
We finished the show with 2 more cuts
from "Mysterious Note - Xun": cut 1 "Ruins"
and cut 6 "Perplexity".
We regret that we cannot give
individual titles to many of these selections, as the labels and
liner notes are in both Tibetan and Chinese characters, without
English language translations. We have not had had time to work
with a translator. If listeners have questions about any of
the above music, or of our recent travels; please address your
questions to us and we will do our best!
Faithfully,
Kitty & Creek
